DHENKANAL: The recent discovery of a treasure trove in a Puri mutt has prompted poets to appeal for using the wealth for social causes.
In a poetry recitation programme at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication on Sunday evening, Jyotirmayi Nath's poem struck a chord with the audience when she described how a number of treasure trove in the country, including the silver bricks worth over Rs 80 crore unearthed in Emar Mutt in Puri, was just going to waste.
The stashed wealth should instead be used for betterment of society and helping the destitute, she said.
Keeping up the vein of uplift of poor, Nath's poem on
Holi highlighted the sharp economic divide in society. She argued that the colours of happiness had no meaning in the lives of the underprivileged.
As many as 30 poets, including Suresh Kumar Mishra and Radhanath Rath, recited their compositions at the programme. Poet Jadunath Sahoo released a CD titled "Jagate Kebala", a collection of satirical articles on contemporary events with satire. The articles were penned by Professor Mrinal Chatterjee.
The poem recitation programme was jointly organized by the Zilla Lekshak Sansad (District Writers' Forum) and the Indian Institution of Mass Communication, Dhenkanal.
